Solo backpack Itinerary to east side of Izu Peninsula

**Context:** 30s F. Been to Japan multiple times, more specifically Tokyo. Did a 7-day Sapporo trip last year. This trip is a solo trip mid March for about 7 days in Japan starting from US > Tokyo > Izu Peninsula > Tokyo then I’ll be going to Hong Kong afterwards. So having a ton of luggage is just not really an option. I do plan to ship all my gifts and souvenirs via Japan Post Surface Mail in Tokyo. I’ll also be taking public transit the whole time. I don’t speak Japanese but I know Chinese and I’m very good at Google Translate (though folks are saying DeepL is better now?) I wanted to explore more of the rest of the peninsula but maybe next time.

**Food:** I plan to just eat whatever looks good there but I had some places bookmarked that I would like to try which I’ve added to the itinerary here.

I’d love feedback and any tips on my itinerary. I’m pretty prepared to sit on a bus for hours but how bad is the bus system there? I know Tokyo is generally safe but how is it in these more rural areas?

**Day 1 – Arrive NRT afternoon, train to Atami**
**Concerns:** It’s a 4 hour train ride, is it better to stay in Tokyo for the evening?

**Day 2 – Atami**
Atami Plum Garden
Sweets: Kiito, Kiunkaku
Walk around Lasca Atami
Atami Ginza Street (Maybe)
**Comments:** Taking it easier this day because of the jetlag. With my one backpack approach it’ll be hard to buy any sort of gifts and souvenirs which I’m well aware. Is there that much stuff to buy? Is it better to ship it back to my Tokyo hotel?

**Day 3 – Atami**
Atami Ropeway
Atami Castle
Aijo-misaki Observatory
Kadowaki Suspension Bridge
Dinner: Osakana Shokudo
Head to at Kawazu

**Day 4 – Kawazu**
Walk around Kawazu (see cherry blossoms if available)
Food: Cafe Ailana
Ruins Park of Kawazu Castle
Odoriko Onsen Kaikan
Kawazu Nandaru Loop Bridge
Kawazu Seven Waterfalls hike
Head to Shuzenji
**Concerns:** This day is pretty packed. Might combo it with Day 3 if it makes sense time wise.

**Day 5 – Shuzenji**
Izu Panorama Park
Mishima Sky Walk
Train to Yokohama and stay overnight
**Concerns:** Really light day, any other suggestions for things to do in Shuzenji?

**Day 6 – Yokohama** (I’ve been here many times so I plan to wing this a bit more)

**Day 7 – Tokyo**
