Looking for a part time job at a ramen-ya in Osaka

Hello all,

I am planning to move to Osaka next year, and will be able to work part time as part of a working holiday visa. I am considering the possibility of working part time at a ramen-ya or an izakaya. My Japanese speaking and listening skills are good enough to get by, but not even close to N2. Maybe not even N3. Can one just walk into a ramen-ya and ask for a job (if there is a posting on the wall saying they are looking for part-timers, which I have usually seen at some places)? Or is there a standard hiring process?

Thanks!

  1. Look at job postings online or in the weekly job magazine listings. I see quite a few ramen places looking for part-time people in my area of Osaka. I am sure you can find some too.

Most likely they will require a resume, which should be hand written on a specific form. You can buy the form many places, like the dollar store.

Since its a minimum wage job, there will be companies that advertise the fact that you don’t need a resume to apply. So it might be helpful to chose one of those places to avoid writing in Japanese if that is not one of your strong points.
