Studying in International Christian University Advice

I got accepted into International Christian University (ICU) for AY2024/2025 for the September enrolment. I was planning to accept but I am quite concerned about whether it would be better to study in a Singapore university instead as I am Singaporean. However, the announcement for admission would most likely be in April and I feel like I might be better to just accept ICU. This concern only came about because my mom seems quite concerned about me going abroad and studying long term there on my own. If anyone is going to be attending ICU starting in September, I would like to get to know you so it would be less lonely going there.

I also wanted to ask how expensive it realistically would be to stay outside of the dorms. From rough estimates provided by ICU, their dorms would be about $3500 a year and if I were to stay outside, it would be $7200 a year. If anyone has any experience staying in a homestay, I would love to hear about that experience as well as ICU has a partner to provide suitable homestays to their students!

For the sake of my parents, I also wanted to know if anyone had any experience doing a part-time job during their studies in a Japanese university in general. What I heard from someone I know is that the common ones are being an English tutor or doing waitering, what other options are there and how was the pay?
