Hi all,
I’m not sure if this is the place to put it, but I just wanted to ask: How much notice do I legally have to provide for paid leave requests? From all I can see it looks like nothing technically, but they can request for it to be changed depending on if it interrupts business operations (drastically?). I gave technically a week and a half notice, on days where business is about a quarter of normal (planned), so my position would not be needed (and coworkers on every level outside of my boss agrees). My employer denied it saying that they confirmed that the lawyer said I am not allowed to decide on dates myself and I have to consult with the company.
There is work that they want me to do that day, but is work that I am not comfortable with (as well as that I feel is a bit legally grey), as it will cover a bit of the reason why business is reduced to a quarter of normal. This is quite out of my job description (though my contract says “whatever the business deems necessary”, I assume this is way too broad).
I am calling their bluff on contacting the lawyer, and everywhere I have seen contradicts what they claim the lawyer “said”. Is there anything I should consider at this time?
