I’d say it’s in the middle. If you’re talking to your boss or customer, you should use phrases like とんでもないです. On the other hand, どういたしまして might be a little too polite for close friends. If a friend says ありがとう, most people will just say ぜんぜんいいよ (It’s all good) or something causal like that. Maybe a really polite person might say どういたしまして to friends but that’s not common. The only situation that I personally use it in real life is maybe when I’m talking to my parents.
