I am a European citizen who wants to move to Japan and would like to ask where to start.
I am very successful in online business, mostly in European countries, so I don’t plan to work in Japan.
No kids, just a partner and a cat.
What I’ve already read is that I need employer visa that’s valid for 5 years with requirement to hire Japanese person which is somehow possible.
What after 5 years, are those visa more likely to be extended or not? Am I able to purchase properties being on such visa?
More importantly, will my partner and a cat get that visa too?
Are there any other options?

Japanese immigration requires that foreign nationals wishing to live in Japan have a specific primary purpose that requires them to be in Japan. Some examples would be to come and live with their spouse, to reconnect with documented Japanese heritage, or to work for a domestic employer.
If you wanted to relocate your business to Japan you’d need to put together a business plan that shows how your business will integrate with the local Japanese economy. If your business is online with primarily European customers and not even any Japanese suppliers it would be a difficult sell to immigration that you’d need to be here at all.
If you are able to secure a business manager visa in order to relocate your business to Japan you should be fine to then sponsor your partner for a dependent status (assuming your partner is your opposite gender and legal spouse).
I wonder if something as easy as adding Japanese pottery to your online inventory would be enough to “integrate” your business into a local Japanese economy
