Good day,
I hope this is the right sub for this question:
I’m a 31 year old German mechanical design engineer with about 8 years experience in my field. I have a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering and a master’s degree in electrical engineering/information technology.
Currently I’m working in Germany but I received an offer to take a position at my company’s headquarter in Switzerland. It’s up to me to decide if I want to transition to project management or IT. While I do have some experience with PM I have little experience in IT.
My wife (36) and I are considering to move to another country in 3-6 years with 1-2 children and Japan is one of the countries in question, which is why I’d like to take this in consideration when choosing my career path for the following years.
Language barriers and other issues aside: Which path do you think would be more advantageous if we’d decide to go for Japan: Mechanical Engineering -> Project Management or Mechanical Engineering -> IT (probably AI / Image Processing)?
Thank you and best wishes
