Applying to Kyoto Seika University/Seian University of Art and Design for Animation Course in Japan

Hi,

I am currently looking at Kyoto Seika University/Seian University of Art and Design to study my University Degree. I would appreciate anybody who has gotten in/applied before, or knows more about this to share some information.

I am a little bit confused about how the whole process of taking the entrance exam would go. On the website it states a few dates for the entrance exam ‘総合型選抜 1期/2期’ I assume this means that I can choose either of the dates provided based on my convenience. The entrance exam fee is also absurdly high compared to where I’m from, Singapore where it cost less than $100 SGD generally while Japan goes from $300-$500.

It is also hard to find videos of campuses, for most schools if you search up the school you would find a large amount vlogs from students and visitors but for Japanese Art Universities it is reallly hard to find any, I’m not sure if I am searching on the wrong platform or is this just a culture thing but apart from the 3 Big Art Universities in Japan, the rest just seem so sketchy with so little info of them online.

Also are there any other recommendations for Art Schools in Japan for Animation? Based on my research, I am currently looking at ( ranked from my fav to least fav)

1.Kyoto Seika University (Very nice work and the director of Penguin High Way went to this school),

2.Seian University of Art and Design (Pretty solid works but feels very remote)

3.Tokyo Zokei (Reputable and near animation studios so I can do internship easier), and

4.Osaka University of Arts (Famous alumnis come from this school and I loved ‘Aoi Honoo’ which is set in this school BUT I heard Osaka is pretty different from the rest of Japan in the way people live and speak and I have doubts about living there for a big portion of my live).

I would appreciate any tips or advice on the matter.

Some background info about myself, I am a 22yrs old Male doing mandatory military service and have gotten my N2 cert. Took animation in Polytechnic but prefers 2D side of animation and some interest in using 3D for backgrounds. Applying in 2024.
