Pros and Cons of “Y”plate vs “Kanjj/ Japanese” plate

I was wondering what the benefits, pros and cons, or differences between a “Y” plate and “Japanese/ local” plate? (referring to car license plates).

Pertaining= For someone who has a local kanji plate and has the opportunity to get a “Y” plate via employment.
