Does anyone here own an electric moped in Japan? I’m in the market for one and am just starting to research what options are available. So far I’m seeing:
* Honda Benly e (which can be seen everywhere driven by JP Post employees in Tokyo and presumably elsewhere)
* Honda EM1-e (cheaper version of the above with less range, more consumer focused?)
* Yamaha E-Vino
* Suzuki e-BURGMAN (apparently 125cc equivalent so no good for my normal drivers license)
Ishigaki also has Gogoro electric scooters available for rent, but that seems to be a special thing with the government or whoever, as they don’t seem to be available for general purchase in Japan.
Electric mopeds are super fun to ride, great torque and acceleration, and very importantly for me, quiet and not powered by gasoline. I hope we start getting a good selection of these sorts of vehicles in the near future, but I’m curious to hear from anyone who has already purchased any of the models that are out there today.
