USJ on Halloween – tips & recommendations

Situation: s/o and myself are going on a 2,5 week trip to Japan in Oktober-November. Since I’m a huge amusement park-, horror- and Harry Potter fan, I was looking forward to visit Universal Studios Japan in Osaka on Halloween.

However, my s/o dislikes amusement parks (he would however like to walk around in the Harry Potter area), crowds and waiting in line. I already know what you’re thinking: it’s a recipe for disaster. We’re also not super-rich and he (understably) doesn’t want to spend €/$120-200 on express passes since he doesn’t like (fast) rides.

I would really like to respect his wishes, without ignoring my own bucket list. My expectations around USJ have severely lowered since I’ve been diving in the details on how to enter the park, the express passes and the horrendous waiting lines (2-3 hours). I already told him he should gear up for 1-2 hour queues where we will pop in our earplugs against sensory overload and try reading a book.

I would be satisfied if we would be able to do 1-2 Harry Potter rides, roam around the Harry Potter area, skip Nintendo-world and do 1-2 Halloween-themed rides (that are only there for that period, If I understand correctly). If we arrive at the park super early (let’s say 1,5-2 hours before opening time), and only buy studio tickets (online and beforehand ofc), would this be an achievable goal on a (busy) day like Halloween? Tips and recommendations are very welcome.
