  1. And thanks to IG and TikTok “influencers,” MFers have discovered Nishitama as well. Nowhere is safe.

  2. It also costs as much. I am looking to visit but plane tickets from Europe cost €1400 at least in the summer. My partner is a school teacher so we can only go during that time.

We’re now planning on going to China for two weeks but if it’s possible to fly for cheap to Tokyo, we’ll do that

  3. Awesome! I hope people have a great time and spend money!

I will miss the days of people fretting about the Taylor Swift concert though. So many morning commutes were ruined!

  4. I’m just wrapping up a two week trip in your wonderful country and amazing city (thanks for having me). I thought February was meant to be low season but it didn’t feel that way most places I went. I could only imagine what peak season must be like!

  5. Shit like this is why my wife and I avoid Tokyo like the bloody plague during the summer. Occasionally, I have to go there for business but I try to keep it brief. Good luck to anyone in that area.

  6. Visit Japan at your own risk! If another big earthquake, Tsunami or if Mt Fuji erupts, you’ll be stuck there without any proper assistance! The Government there hasn’t even provided the Noto Quake ( 1/1 ) survivors with proper assistance as the survivors are struggling without clean water and warm shelters ( it’s been almost 2 months now ) but all these negative things aren’t covered by the English language based media. The media will only portray Japan as a wow beautiful country to travel to and never focus on the negatives! Japan has always been and will remain an over-rated country!

  7. Why is everyone so interested in Japan all of a sudden? When I went back to the US for a few weeks over the summer (first time back since corona), so many people said their son or daughter was really interested in Japanese culture.

  8. Just a friendly proxy for all these tourists chiming in on a resident’s sub:

    > Oooh!!!!!!!!!! Japan!!!!!!!!!! GUSH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So docile and subservient!!!!!!!!! LOVE LOVE LOVE JAPAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  9. The yen being ridiculously cheap definitely helps.
I don’t mind tourists, I mean, I was one as well so ain’t gonna sit on my high horse and pretend my shit don’t stink.
The only thing that I won’t do anymore is going to Kyoto. No f-ing way. Not worth it.
That city just isn’t built for the amount of tourists that go there every year.
Tokyo will do just fine. Osaka borderline, but Kyoto…. RIP! They need to sort something out.

  10. Many more posts coming like this…”I’ve always been fascinated by the Japanese culture. I plan to learn Japanese N1 level in 1 year of school. I plan to move my family of 5 to Tokyo from NYC. I have no marketable skills. I love ramen and taking pictures of myself eating on Instagram. Can an English teacher afford a 200 meter apartment in Tokyo? Does Tokyo support gay rights? Can my kid have died blue hair in the Tokyo public school system? Where can I protest when I live in Japan so I can change some of the cultural norms I don’t agree with?”
