Hello, I’m currently planning a trip to Kyoto (2nd time in Japan) and would like to do some fishing if at all possible. I tenkara fish here in the US and would like to bring my pole to Japan and try fishing there. I’ve read a lot about hiring guides that provide all the equipment and what not but can I just fish on my own? Do I need a license and how do I get one if so? What rivers or streams near Kyoto would you recommend? I heard the Hozugawa is supposed to be pretty good.
