Switching Cell Carriers after a couple decades

I’ve been a long time AU customer. My home internet is KDDI’s AU Hikari, my wife and I both have plans with them under my name.

I have been using a 2nd phone (used junk phone) with a Povo SIM in it for over a year now (for a side business), and I have never been upset with the service, and love the way it works (a la carte) for my use case. I make a lot of phone calls and use plenty of data while out and about.

Recently they came out with an auto-charge for the 30 day 3 GB topping that will automatically re-purchase whenever the data or time limit is up.

I am seriously considering moving my wife’s line and my main line to Povo. We can basically “set it and forget it” with the auto-charge 3GB and my wife uses the 5 minutes free thing at AU, so we can do that as well and she won’t have to mess around with the Povo app much.

Are there any down sides I’m missing?

I’ve pretty much woken up to the fact that my cell bill is way higher than it needs to be, and am open to non-Povo suggestions as well if there’s some big gotcha I’m not seeing here.

Thanks all.
