Left bag in local Japan Post office

I’m a tourist. I left my bag in Japan post office.

To keep it short, I was sitting in the post office with my luggage and bag, waiting for a friend. His luggage and bag is in there too. I step outside for 10 seconds and, when I turn back, the door is closed and won’t open and the lights are off.

Today is Friday, 23rd of February; the Emperor’s birthday, so a public holiday. I think that’s why it closed early (I think around 2:30 pm). Online sources say that local post offices don’t open on public holidays nor weekends. I spoke to the Police officers at a nearby station. They told me it won’t open till Monday, there’s nothing I can do to get my stuff out until then.

I’m not leaving Japan till much later than next Monday, so that’s not an issue.

Our bags and luggage has many important things — passports, chargers, laptops, my wallet and some jackets. I have the clothes I’m currently wearing, a jacket to keep warm, a phone (with a credit card), AirPods, and some lip balm. My friend has his phone, AirPods, wallet and 2 Suica cards.

I have a couple questions:
1. Is there any way I can get my luggage before Monday?
2. If not, is it OK that I go around without my passport? I’m thinking I can check in to a hotel and just do stuff between now and Monday; then, come back on Monday to get my stuff and continue on the trip as per normal, with a few delays.
3. Are there any solutions to this? Alternative plans?

Thanks in advance for all help you can give.

Edit: a 4th question, will they clear out our bags over the weekend? Can I expect they’ll still be there on Monday?

Edit: I got the bags. Thanks y’all.
