Building an early career in Tokyo as a foreign graduate

Living in Japan as an international volunteer right now, I am a little depressed at how difficult it seems to find permanent employment here.

To give a background, I recently graduated with an engineering degree along with 3 years of engineering professional experience back in my country in France. Along with it, have N2 and have no issues communicating in a japanese professional environment. And for family matters, I do seek to build myself professionally while residing in Japan.

So, for the past few months, I have been looking for a more “working with the client” kind of job such as IT consultant or sales engineer but the vast majority of those offers are gatekept behind native japanese fluency (or N1) and/or 5+ years of experience in the field which I don’t have but do my best to relate to my past experience inside my resume and cover letter. Also, with the few casual interviews I had with HRs, most of them don’t consider the skills and knowledge i’ve earned during my past education and/or work experiences.

Being aware of the japanese work and corporate culture (foreigner discrimination, ブラック企業 etc.), I avoid applying to japanese companies and focus on international ones as my objective is to build a long term evolutive career. But this approach greatly reduces the amount of places to apply.

I honestly am considering going back home to find and build my career as I believe my resume will be considered at the very least. But taking in fact that I’ve been looking and applying for few months maybe this is a too early take?

I would greatly appreciate your advices if some had past job hunting experience here.
