Travelling to Japan with unusual food allergies

Hey there,

So, I’m heading off to Japan next week for the first time, gonna be there for about three weeks.

l’m seriously allergic to mushrooms – anaphylaxis ! And yeah, eggplant’s not great for me either, though it’s more of a huge discomfort (hives, swollen throat and lips) that I’d like to avoid rather than a life-threatening thing like mushrooms.
I’ve had this all translated and I’m gonna carry cards with me to show at restaurants and stuff.

I have some quick questions for my own peace of mind: Should I steer clear of all soups and broths?
Are mushrooms pretty much everywhere in Japanese cuisine? And are they usually easy to spot, or do they sometimes sneak into dishes all mashed up?

I’m familiar with dishes that are widely available in europe, but beyond that, I’m pretty clueless.

We are on a bit of a budget so we will be going to 7-11 quite a bit.
Still, I really wanna dig into some Japanese cuisine at least once a day without freaking out too much.

Thanks a bunch for your help, really appreciate it!
This allergy thing’s the only bit that’s got me a worried!
