Romance Car Versus Shinkansen to Hakone?

We’ve been crunching numbers and haven’t found a huge difference in transportation time.Shinkansen: 2 hours (Including train from Iidabashi area hotel to Tokyo Station, Shinkansen to Odawara, Romance Car to Hakone-Yumoto, and then bus to Gora area ryokan)

OR

RomanceCar: 2 hours 10 min ((Including train from Iidabashi area hotel to Shinjuku Station, Romance Car to Hakone-Yumoto, and then bus to Gora area ryokan)

Given that it’s not a huge discrepancy in time, which do you think is best to take? If booking Shinkansen do we have to book as early in advanced as the RomanceCar? (Do they sell out like the RomanceCar does?) The tix for the day we want go on sale tomorrow evening our time for the RomanceCar and the Shinkansen.

I was also wondering if anyone is aware of time changes or the RomanceCar. Google isn’t showing the earlier time for the RomanceCar we want to take for the day we’re looking at. Earliest the show is 10am. Leaving early is a priority for us, so the decision may be made for us, but does anyone know if the RomanceCar is reducing the amount of trains/times running? Online says they run from 7am.
