I have some investments in US Treasury Series I Bonds. US taxes on any annual interest are deferred until the bond reaches final maturity. However, I’d like to know if I can also wait before paying my taxes to the Japanese government until final maturity.

This issue has come up a few times before (most notably [here](https://www.reddit.com/r/JapanFinance/comments/qqnr5p/us_treasury_series_i_savings_bond_interest/)), and unfortunately the answer seems to be: no one really knows.
