I usually mine new words using Yomitan, which is structured such that you mine Kanji and “Terms” separately. It’s easier to mine terms from just hearing them in shows or movies, then looking them up, finding a sentence on ImmersionKit or Tatoeba, etc. Whereas for Kanji, at least the way I do it, you break it down using components, come up with a story, etc.
I’ve been noticing that my retention rate for my Terms deck has been decreasing lately (it’s currently 80%), and according to the Review Count graph below I’m having to relearn more and more cards.

According to a script I wrote, I have 471 Kanji that are in my Terms deck (not including example sentences) that I don’t have any Kanji cards for (I only have about \~450 unique Kanji cards).
So I’m wondering if I should be prioritizing learning Kanji instead of terms, and also, not learning any new terms without also having cards for their Kanji.
Curious what anyone thinks. Personally I’ve decided to double down on Kanji cards, prioritizing those that appear most frequently in any terms that I already have. Then I’m going through the remaining Jouyou Kanji in order of frequency.
