I applied for an American for a passport renewal at the US Embassy. I provided a LetterPack with my physical Japanese address for the renewal and did it in-person, with friends reporting turnaround times as soon as 2 weeks after appointment. I confirmed with the Embassy worker that my Japanese address was filled out correctly on the letter pack.
I’m at the 3-4 week point post-appointment and am expecting my Passport any day.
Today I found a mass-printed mail slip in my apartment’s mailbox that had my address scribbled into a box, along with lots of japanese with a poorly-translated English phrase essentially saying “since we cannot confirm your name we cannot deliver your mail” with no follow-up instructions. I have to assume this was my passport, as I cannot afford to lose a $150 investment because Japan hasn’t figured out how to stick a passport in a mailbox.
I speak 0 Japanese. How can I dig up the whereabouts of this passport and also determine what went wrong in this delivery?
