Arriving in Kyoto during Jidai Matsuri?

Hi everyone,

I am traveling to Japan in October. I will arrive in Tokyo on 18th, and I booked my hotel in Kyoto from 22nd to 28th (the extent of one week worth of JR Pass, basically).

My doubt comes when considering that I will arrive the day of the Jidai Matsuri, and my hotel (Rinn Niomon) is very close to Heian Shrine. I am afraid that this day the city will be very packed and it will be even harder to navigate with suitcases, streets may be closed and simply too many people will be visiting the tourist attractions of the city.

I was thinking I could come to Kyoto the day after so I would not run into these issues and I could start visiting attractions. What do you think?
