Hey everyone. I currently live in Taipei but will be traveling to Naha for the first time on 5/1 for a visa run (I need to leave Taiwan and come back every 90 days to renew my visa exempt status, I’m sure many of you know what I’m talking about). I decided to make a little bit of a vacation out of it and will be staying in Naha for 3 nights.
Because I’ve never been to Okinawa before, I would really appreciate some advice on things to do and places to check out. What are some great places to get a drink? Are there any good places to listen to live music in Naha, especially Jazz? What restaurants and local dishes are essential to try? The NBA playoffs are on, are there any places that might replay the games in the evening? Also, no judgement, but I’m personally not interested in sex workers or adjacent industries.
I had no idea the week I planned my visit was Golden Week. What does that mean exactly? What should I expect?
