COE + Visa obtained, next steps on landing / residence card and taking trips out of Japan

Hey all,

Tried searching for an answer but getting lost in some of the responses. I’ve just gotten a 5 year work Visa approved today after getting my COE approved a few weeks ago. I’ve been told that I need to enter Japan withir 3 months of the COE approval (approx early April).

I wasn’t planning on moving to Japan until July, so I was thinking to enter prior to the COE expiry in April, obtain the residence card and then leaving and coming back a few months later. I’ve read that you need to contact the local municipal office and update them of your address with 14 days, but I’m unsure if this is within 14 days of moving to Japan or moving to a permanent spot within that municipality (i.e. long-term rental).

I also read that I should be able to re-enter Japan under the Special Re-Entry permit that you tick the box for when you depart from Japan at the airport.
Is there something am I missing or am I able to land on my 5 year visa, obtain the residence card at the airport, leave again within a few days and check the special re-entry permit then come back within 3 months?

Thanks in advance!
