Guidance and Opinions on living in Japan via Student Visa

Hey guys, I’ve been pretty fascinated by Japanese culture, the language, the country and the whole lot since I was a young teenager. At this point in my life, I’m ready for new experiences and really couldn’t care less about my career anymore. I’ve been practicing Japanese on and off for a year or two now, with some learning history in primary school.

I currently work as a Software Developer which I dropped my Computer Science degree for. So I don’t have a completed degree under my belt but I’ve got roughly $45,000 AUD saved.

So the gist is. If I wanted to get to Japan and immerse/live and learn for a year and see where that takes me, would the best course of action be a Language School? I’ve heard they’re pretty hit and miss and of course they are expensive.

On the other hand I could wait two or three years and finish my degree in Australia, so that I could go over to Japan as an English teacher. But I do worry if I’d even make it as a teacher, I’ve never taught before, etc. Whereas if I went as a student I could work part time, possibly follow further education, etc.

Getting to Japan as a Software Developer probably isn’t viable right now as I don’t have a degree nor 10 years experience, and my company wouldn’t be able to do a transfer or anything.

Overall, I feel like my options are a lot more viable and open if I go as a student but I trade pretty much all of my savings.

Thoughts? Anything I’ve missed or not considered?

EDIT: Forgot to mention that I’ve travelled to Japan prior. I’ve visited Rusutsu & Niseko for snowboarding, Hakodate and a few areas in Tokyo but mainly Shinjuku and Asakusa.
