getting rid of my table (oversize garbage)

I’m going back to my country and I need to get rid of a table before the 22nd of March.

I know I have to speak with oversize garbage disposal, but how feasible is it without really speaking much japanese? I get the feeling if I call the number on the internet nobody is going to speak english. How much do I expect to pay? where do you usually have to put the oversize garbage? Carrying the table home was no easy feat, I hope I don’t have to drag it to the other side of Kyoto again.
Can you kind people of reddit give me some advice? I’m a bit nervous that I won’t be able to do it in time.

I’ll give it away for free and even pay to get rid of it.

  1. There’s a group on Facebook called Kyoto Sayonara Sales, you can sell it or give it away for free through it and people can come and pick it up at your place.

  2. Do you have a car? You can take up to 100 kg of garbage to the dump (京都市南部クリーンセンター)per trip for ¥1000. That’s how I got rid of all my stuff when I moved. Way easier if you have lots of stuff to throw out.

  3. I don’t know the rules in 2023 Kyoto, but in the 2000s in Kobe there was one day a week for big garbage pickup, and in the evening people would just stack whatever they wanted to get rid of by the street. I picked up a sofa, refrigerator, bookcase, etc. from these piles. There were pickup trucks from used goods stores that would roam the neighborhood hoarding anything with much resale value – at that time TVs, air conditioners, etc.
