Hotel Room Occupancy in Osaka

Hi there! Not sure if I should be posting this in /r/hotels but thought it wouldn’t hurt to ask here as well.

I’m visiting Osaka from April 3rd to 10th next month, mainly going for a music festival. First time travelling outside Canada! I booked my flight and hotel together as a package through Travelocity back in August. During then, I was not sure if one of my online friends also going to the festival would be staying in my room or not, so I set the # of guests to just one (myself) but booked a “Triple Room” which was rated to accomodate 3 people, it has 1 double bed and a pullout double sofa bed. In October he finally got his plane ticket due to having to save a bit of money so then I knew he was definitely going and would be staying with me. He’d be leaving the same day as me which helps. I get in the night of the 3rd but he would be arriving on the 4th in the afternoon as he is in Tokyo a few days before I arrive.

He told me however that hotels in Japan operate a bit differently, charging by amount of people in a room rather than rooms themselves. I emailed the hotel about this (Hotel Hillarys Osaka) for more information but have not yet received anything back. I asked if there would be any extra fees for a 2nd person in my room and said I will pay any charges incurred. Figure it shouldn’t be too much of a hassle since I wouldn’t need to change to a larger room, just to register my friend as a 2nd guest. The language barrier I hope won’t cause any issues, let alone wanting to add him as a guest in my room.

I guess to put it into a shorter question, will I be able to add my friend as a 2nd person staying in my room considering that there is space and no need to change to a larger room? We figure it wouldn’t be a problem but would rather find out now so if not he can scramble to find somewhere else.

Thanks!
