I’m having trouble finding information online about this and when calling Japanese embassy and talking to the USA visa sites am not getting the information I need.
Basically my wife and I want to move to Japan. Recently I found out that if you have a parent or grandparent who was a Japanese national you can apply directly for permanent residence. The issue for us is that my wife’s grandmother has passed and so I can’t really get the information from her. She was born in Hawaii to parents both from Japan. I read that children of Japanese nationalists then get citizenship. How can I figure out if she got citizenship? Was there any process she needed to complete in order to get citizenship or do we just need to prove her parents had citizenship?
Also if we can prove she should be a citizen would we then qualify for residency?
