Latest car rental experience

Just want to get some opinions on our last rental experience.

We’ve rented from various shops before; nissan, orix, budget, jnet, and this time we rented a car from nippon rent-a-car at Osaka for 3 days.

On pickup inspection, the car appeared pretty bruised up with major scratches on all bumpers. It was pre-recorded and the employee volunteered that information. We quickly check the body paint, all is fine, so we drove off.

After <15 mins of driving, under direct sunlight, we noticed something reflective on the windshield. Once we stopped the car, we found out that’s actually a 0.5cm long chip on the glass. We never checked the windshield or any glass, so we don’t know when was it there. But then, the other thing we also noticed, with better light, was that the driver seat has a burnt hole — a cigarette burn hole. Needless to say, we don’t smoke.

The car has quite a bit of mileage at 60k+ km. It make sense for the bumpers. But I don’t know what to think of the chip and cigarette burn. We thought of mentioning those issues when we return the car, but we worry communication issue will make explaining impossible to reconcile, so we didn’t. I’m also disappointed that I rented a non-smoking car with a cig. burnt hole in it.

Thoughts?
