  1. First Kazuki Takahashi and now Akira Toriyama. Rest in Peace, you absolute legends. Dragon Ball was such a huge part of my childhood and I’ll always be grateful for his work.

  2. He passed away on March 1. His condition was hematoma which was likely caused by head injury

  3. Gutted, big part of my childhood and then I moved to Japan as Super started and watched it weekly to help learn Japanese. He’s left a giant mark on manga, anime, Japanese and global culture. Rip

  4. Don’t worry, we just need to gather the dragon balls and summon Shenlong, right? Right??

  5. Dragon ball z is the entire reason I love Japan so much. Such a hero.

  6. Akira may have gotten the door opened for western fans to like anime, but it was DBZ that kicked the door off it’s hinges so that the rest of the Japanese anime especially shonen anime like One Piece and Naruto to come into the western world. This is just so so out of right field here.

  7. Im having a moment of existential crisis realizing that the artists/authors of whose works I grew up loving are beginning to pass away

RIP Mr Toriyama, you will be missed

  8. Devastating, he really meant a lot for my childhood. Dragonball was the first manga I ever bought, and dragonball z was the first anime I ever saw. I liked his name so much when I went to Japan and made a LINE account I used akira in my username. Too many legends gone too soon

  9. The first real anime for me besides Pokémon. These two anime series opened the Western world to other anime. Rest in peace toriyama, enjoy it with King Kai and Bubbles

  10. RIP. I don’t even know how many times I read DB. Thank you for everything. You will not be forgotten.

  11. who was this?

i have never watched dragon ball z and i know it only from the OVER 900000000 meme.

  12. This is certainly not a good day. He is one of the greatest people to live. This reminds me of when Kentaro Miura passed away. R.I.P

  13. Oh no. I rarely get sad when a famous writer, actor or artist dies, but this genuinely is one of those times 🙁

Thank you for bringing Goku and his family, friends and enemies into this world. They made my childhood a much happier time.

  14. So sad. My interest in Japan started with Dr Slump and Dragon Ball many years ago.

  15. The king is dead, long live the king! 👑

Thank you for creating all these masterpieces and teaching me and my generation the value of friendship, honor, and hard work!

    Toriyama-san, arigatou!

  16. No I’m not crying. I’m bawling 😭😭😭. To me and my friends that grew up watching Dragon Ball, it feels like we’ve lost a life-long friend and we’re saying goodbye to a part of our childhood. I can not describe the sadness I feel right now. Japan has such the most amazing culture and most creative and talented people. I pray that more and more and more japanese babies will come so we get to have more talented people on this planet.
