Hi, in the process of getting my COE for studying at a language school for 1 year starting in April, and making the move in the second half of March. Looking for some advice to some concerns I have from the experienced ones around here.
1. Going with a friend, and looking to stay in a sharehouse that allows it (in separate rooms). I’m aware of options like Borderless, Sakura, Oakhouse, Fontana, Atinn, etc. If I’m missing any other recommended options, do share.
\- Question: If the available rooms do not align to other planned move date, is it an okay option to rent a temporary solution like AirBnb, a short-term apartment, etc until we can find a long-term stay that suits our preferences? I’ve read that changing the address on the Zairyu card shouldn’t a hassle.
If it helps, I’ve stayed in Borderless before, had a great experience, and looking to do the same again, but finding a house with 2 rooms near the language school hasn’t been easy so far.
2. Intending to keep my old phone number from my country – would changing it to an E-SIM, and getting a physical SIM for a JP phone number be the optimal way? What have you guys done, or would recommend doing so?
3. What should I be looking to prepare to do in the 2 weeks before classes, orientation start? I’m assuming the school will help us with the administrative works like setting up address, bank accounts, etc. I’m aware of some simple living starts like scoping out the neighborhood, supermarkets, amenities, etc. Just worried I may be missing anything important.
That’s all I have on my mind now, would greatly appreciate any replies!
