Announcements near the beach

Hi all, I’ve (English speaker) been here in Okinawa for the past week and was staying near the beach in Nago the past few days. Around 8am and 6pm and maybe other times the loudspeakers play chime sounds and then make an announcement in Japanese. What are these? Weather? Beach conditions? Totally unrelated? Just peaked my curiousity and I wasn’t unable to understand the Japanese or find anything through a Google search. Thanks!

  1. I’m pretty sure they are basically reminders to workers out side and I believe kids, of what time it is

  2. It’s just old school public announcements over the PA system, done through out the day for various things happening locally. Also at 1730 and 1800 there are reminders for the kids to go home. It’s all over Okinawa and not just Nago.

  3. It’s the city announcements. Election coming up. Municipal calendar. Don’t forget next tuesday is a holiday. Free puppies at city hall next wednesday from 2-4. That kind of thing.
