Hi I’m currently a graduate student at a university in Kyoto completing my master’s thesis.
My topic is looking into how businesses utilize AI towards English-speaking tourists in Japan and I want to interview people who work in the tourism industry (whether it be as a tour guides, hotel managers, tourism-related business managers and so on) to gain as much perspective as I can! Before someone comments that it isn’t utilized you’d be surprised that a few businesses are incorporating it ! I’m looking to interview people mostly in Kyoto (can do other prefectures too) i can do in person or via zoom! If you are willing to share your thoughts please comment or PM for further information!

I work in tourism here. We don’t use any ai. Tour guides? Zero ai used.
I think that you are getting down voted because these days when you say “AI” everyone thinks generative AI, i.e., ChatGPT.
However, things like translation apps, e.g., Google Translate or DeepL, are AI. The simulated voice announcements that JR uses are AI.
I don’t work in tourism, but I see AI in use all over the place in Kyoto.
