Grandparents are selling a home in Ito, Shizuoka. Should I buy it?

I am interested in purchasing my family’s home in Japan. My great grandfather is close to passing and my grandpa wants to sell their vacation house within the year. I am trying to gauge if this is even a good idea to consider purchasing or not. I went to Japan many times as a kid and spent a lot of time here so it does have some sentimental value.

With little research I’ve learned it is possible to purchase a house as a US citizen and that in Japan, generally houses depreciate in value.

If I could commit to spending about 60 days a year in Japan, do you think it would be worth it? I wouldn’t plan to rent it out during the times I’m not there so it’ll just be a money sink over time, right? And maybe I’m ok with that, just want to get some thoughts. Thank you!!
