Advice on picking university for exchange program this coming Fall.

Hey guys! I’m a student from Malaysia taking Software Engineering as my degree. My home university offered us to pick around 40+ universities in Japan that we can choose for an Exchange Program for one semester and I decided to stick to Kyoto because I heard a lot of good things about it! After doing some research, I’ve narrowed my scope to these unis, I’ve put points on what I know regarding these unis based on my research but correct me if I’m wrong :

Kyoto University
\- Heard the most about this, a lot of people said this is like the Harvard of Japan?
\- 6 international houses, ranging form 20k yen to 40k yen a month.
\- Hardest syllabus(?)
Doshisha University
\- Has the most positive reviews out of the four
\- Great pastoral care
\- Haven’t found a lot of info regarding the dorms aside from Keishi-Ryo (60k a month)
Ryukoku University
\- 3 dormies ranging around 20k – 30k monthly
Kyoto Institute of Technology
\- a bit secluded, not many crowds
\- cheapest dormy, ranging from 15k – 20k monthly

I would greatly appreciate any insights from the universities mentioned above, especially Doshisha because that’s the only University where I haven’t found any info regarding their dormitory fees. Budget is pretty much a major factor for my choice also.

And lastly, regarding tourists, are they usually packed everyday or only on ocassions? Are the crowds as big as they are in Tokyo?

This is my first time coming to Japan so any info and advice would really help a bunch!
