I have just got married/getting married and am in the process of getting a Koseki Tohon for my wife and I.
My passport, driver’s license etc basically all standard documents from back home, work contracts, bank statements etc, do not have my middle name.
My Birth Certificate, and unfortunately the certificate of freedom to marry do have my middle name. (They took it from my birth certificate and included it without asking)
The City hall want to add my middle name to the Koseki Tohon.
Has anyone had this discrepancy before, how did it affect you, particularly in terms changing your reason to stay from tourist to spouse.
I’m afraid of having a Koseki Tohon that is “different” from my passport..
Obviously from a European perspective we know that middle names are typically not used but Japan is less clear.
I suspect it’s going to cause me a ton of problems.
