Can someone explain smoking restrictions in Japan?

I’m making reservations on Airbnb for an apartment with a terrace and I’m being told that the entire building is non smoking including balconies or terraces. And apparently even in the city there are strict designated areas for smoking. To be clear I’m talking about nicotine cigarettes.

I’ve done some preliminary research and understand that smoking has generally been prohibited since COVID. But if any one has tips on how to survive with a nicotine habit while visiting Japan I’d appreciate it. I’ve started looking up and noting cigar bars on Google maps. Any other suggestions?
