I got a scholarship to a doctoral course in Tokyo starting April 1st, have been looking at apartments for weeks as I have to move from Tohoku.
I was looking at an apartment with my Japanese girlfriend we both really liked but the real estate agent requires us to use a guarantor company for the apartment.
My girlfriend spell at a 派遣会社 just ended and wanted to search for a job in Tokyo, meaning her current state is unemployed.
It was my girlfriend who talked with the agent, and while he haven’t told the reason nor any solution, but looking online we probably failed because I am a foreigner and they think that we can’t sustain the apartment (7万5千円) due to her being unemployed right now.
At my current apartment (57k jpy), the university is the guarantor.
Do you guys know any solution to this, or a guarantor company which would be willing to have us?
What I find ridiculous is that we had no contact with the guarantor company, so they don’t know whether we have savings or not nor anything.
