Switching companies and fields – change of resident status question

<<EDIT/UPDATE:>> I realized that although i am switching jobs from instructor to engineer, according to what is written on my residence card, those statuses are lumped together now. So this means I don’t need to file change of status then? I am changing companies, though, so I imagine I still have to let immigration know? Do i need to still ask old company for release letter?

I apologize in advance if this question has been asked in some form already, but just want to make sure how applies to my circumstances. In short, my 3 year work visa is good until this September. I will likely be changing jobs (and fields) in the next month or so.

I know i will have to file a change of resident status after i change companies, but does that restart my visa (so 3 years from the time of the change) or will i have to do a renew again in August with the new company?
