Should I take a Japanese 101 course at college if I’m already confident in the basics?

I’m joining college in a few weeks, and it seems to offer a few basic language courses, Japanese being one of them. They don’t really go beyond the fundamentals (about N5 level), whereas I consider myself to be somewhere between N4 and N3 in terms of fluency and vocabulary.

Should I bother going through this course? Will it have any long-term pros or should I use my time for some other elective instead?

  1. Yes, if nothing but the speaking practice and it will show you any holes in your understanding that you may have.
