Thinking about buying a used mx5 for a few years in Japan. Maybe ill purchase a 2022 in 2025 (3 year old, low miles).
I have experience purchasing a few used vehicles in the US. Took a long time looking for low miles, single owner, all the typical stuff. I never took any vehicle to a shop before purchasing to be honest, but I did look it over, check oil, tires, drive it, and just see in general how it was treated.
I remember the process was pretty simple person to person, go into bank, transfer money in bank, receive pink slip right there and take possession. Then go to DMV do paper work etc.
I realize I may have been lucky in the states not to get a lemon or get scammed but I don’t speak native JP (although I have pretty good level and handle all my lifes paperwork alone) and I just dont want to run into any problems.
Does JF have any specific info with respect to purchasing a used car specifically from an individual? I would like to avoid those used car lots (the ones in the US have bad reputations, not sure about JP) and I would not get a loan I’d likely pay cash.
