Moving and working remotely from Japan

Hey folks, hope you all are having a lovely day!

I am about to graduate and received an offer for the role of Software Engineer in a startup based in Tokyo. Can you please help me figure our if it’s worth it or not.

My monthly pay without tax is about \~450k per month (5.4 million yen per year). The offer also has a bonus of 1 million paid two times an year (500k yen/6 months). I am told that I can work from anywhere in Japan, but might need to visit their office once or twice a quarter.

They are sponsoring my visa, one way flight and an accommodation for 21 days but after that I’d have to look for apartments on my own.

# Some more context

**About the company**

The people in startup seem nice, there are a significant number of foreigners mostly from Europe , so I’m assuming WLB would not be a major issue. As I said I might have to visit the office once or twice a quarter for a get-together.

**About Me and Expectations**

I’m moving from India, more specifically Dharamshala, Himachal (where Dalai Lama resides). I’m have not been a very outgoing person until now, but I’d love to change it and explore a bit more (going out on weekends etc.)

Although I’ve mostly been a vegetarian, I’ll probably start eating meat to make it easy on me. I don’t know cooking at all, so will be learning that a bit. I plan to eat out regularly to avoid cooking food (but not in fancy restaurants, maybe once in 3-4 months?).

Ideally I’d like to save a good portion of my income. My plan is to move back to my country after 2-3 years as from what I’ve gathered tech sector is a bit stagnant in Japan. But this can change if I can find good growth opportunities.

# Questions

I hope I am able to provide enough context. Can you folks please help me with these questions –

* How would life be with this salary in Tokyo? I have a general sense of spending breakdowns from other posts, but would love if someone has anything to add.
* Since the role is mostly remote, which city do you guys think would be a good choice? (accepting towards Indian foreigners, affordable)
* Is it costly/difficult to change apartments regularly? Say once in 6 months or an year?
* Anything else that I should keep in mind?

Thanks a lot to everyone who contributes in this sub. You guys are awesome!

Please pardon any mistakes in my post.
