Is 「どうせ」an impolite word?

Last time my Japanese teacher seemed a little unhappy when I used 「どうせ」.

Does 「どうせ」include any bad implication?

  1. Not a bad implication per se, but I rarely see どうせ used in positive sentences.

    E.g

    どうせ誰も気づかないよ nobody noticed anyway

  2. It doesn’t have any bad meanings or vibes but It’s a very informal word that you only use to casual communicate with your inferiors (kids, little brothers/sisters, students etc,.) or your equals , like, friends. You shouldn’t use it in formal conversation or to people above your standing.

  3. If someone brings up a counter argument or there is a discussion going on and your input is どうせ it means something like, Well, whatever, or either way … This can be perceived as you not caring for the input or dismissing others opinions which can be quite rude.

  4. どうせやらないやろ?it has a pretty bad connotation. Really only used when expressing discontent 「不満」
