Eki stamps

I’ve seen station stamps mentioned online a few times. I travel a lot for work and think it would be cool to collect them, but I haven’t seen any mention of them in my area.

Does JR West do Ekimae stamps? Or is that purely a JR East and JR Central thing?

  1. Don’t bother looking them up, finding the stamps is half the fun. They’re all over Japan… If you look up 記念スタンプ – commemorative stamps, you might learn more. They’re at train stations ‘eki stamps’, then also service stations on highways, museums, art galleries, zoos, aquariums, general tourist spots, and of course, temples. They’re really everywhere.

Minor train stations usually don’t have them, but major ones definitely do, and most manned stations have a good chance to have them. Some train stations offer seasonal stamps, so you can get 4, one for each season. This is usually only larger cities in my experience.

Get a decent notebook with some thick paper so you don’t get bleed through, and no lines of course. It’s one of my favourite cheap hobbies.
