My husband and I, both mid-30s and nerds, are going to Japan for the 1st time in May.
I did the itinerary myself trying to capture everything we want to see (well, quite impossible since we have only 22 days there)
I want to check it and maybe get some good tips! 🙂
We travel with small luggage (less than 10kg each) + a small backpack
I’m not sure we need the extra day in Tokyo at the end so I was trying to see where is best to spend that day
* **May 9 – Brazil**
* Leave Brazil
* **May 11 – Tokyo**
* Arrive at Haneda 3pm
* Pick pocket wifi at the airport (Or use chip?) – I want to have fast and good quality connection.
* Check-in Hotel >!\[I’m considering Ueno\] !<\+ eat something and rest
* **May 12 – Tokyo**
* Go to Harajuku + Shibuya
* See the Meiji, Yoyogi Park, Takeshita, Kiddy Land, Hachiko, Shibuya crossing, Shibuya Sky
* Plan the JR Pass activation for May 15 and buy Hakone Pass
* Eat Ramen and drink sake
* **May 13 – Tokyo \[HAKONE\]**
* Day trip to Hakone and do the loop. Early.
* Then eat something at night in Tokyo (Tonkatsu – I was looking some of them on Michelin guide).
* **May 14 – Tokyo**
* Enjoy the day going to Akihabara + Asakusa (Senso-ji, Shrine, Nakamise
* Eat Meron Pan
* Go to Tokyo Skytree
* Go to Kabukicho at night?
* **May 15 – Go to Kanazawa**
* Check-out super early and take the Shinkansen from Ueno St to Kanazawa (3hrs)
* Not sure if I leave the baggage in a locker or if In Tokyo I send it directly to Nagoya.
* Kenrokuen park, Seinson-Kaku, Castle, Ninja Temple, enjoy the streets
* Eat Hida Beef
* Try to go to one onsen (hotel) – tattoo friendly.
* >!Not sure if I sleep in Kanazawa and go in the morning to Takayama or if I go to Takayama today.!<
* **May 16 – Takayama \[>Nagoya\]**
* Takayama day
* Miyagawa mkt, sanmachi, enjoy the city.
* *Well, here I was planning another day in Takayama to go to Kamikochi and Shin-Hokata Ropeway and enjoy the 1st ryokan but since it will be closed and was quite expensive (the bus + ryokan) only to spend few hours at the park with a long journey… I decided to put one more day in Kyoto and find a nice ryokan there, near the forest and explore more carefully there.*
* At the afternoon we take the Hida until Nagoya
* **May 17 From Nagoya to Magome \[Nakasendo Trail\]**
* Nagoya is just the city we will sleep.
* This day we will travel to Magome to do the Nakasendo Trail
* Back from Tsumago we go to Nagiso and take the train back to Nagoya
* Have dinner in Nagoya
* **May 18 – From Nagoya to Mount Koya**
* In the morning we will do our journey to Mt Koya \[we have to go to Namba St and pick the train there)
* Sleep Temple
* Visit Koyasan
* **May 19 – Koya to Osaka**
* After the ceremony and breakfast, we will go back to Osaka.
* Then, after we check-in near the station we will enjoy the rest of the day there.
* Castle, Shitennoji, Tsutenkaku
* **May 20 Osaka \[Nara\]**
* Day trip to Nara Park
* **May 21 Osaka**
* Universal Day
* At night enjoy Dotonbori
* **May 22 Hiroshima**
* Take the early shinkansen to Hiroshima
* Check in hotel and go to explore the city
* **May 23 Miyajima \[>Kyoto\]**
* Day trip to Miyajima
* Itukushima, Daisho-in, Mount Misen, Omotesando
* Back to Kyoto at night and go to hotel
* **May 24 \[Kyoto\]**
* Kyoto South + Uji
* Fushimi Inari super early, Byodoin – train to Uji, Ujigami and then Manpukuji
* **May 25 \[Kyoto\]**
* Ginkakuji, Philosophers Path, Eikandô, Heian Shrine, Kodaiji, Ninnenzaka e Sannenzaka, Kyomizudera
* Maruyama park at night
* **May 26 \[Kyoto\]**
* Kyoto Center
* Toji, Honganji temples, Samurai experience, Nijo Castle
* Nishiki mkt
* Shijo
* Gion
* Eat Soba at Juugo (reservation)
* **May 27 \[Kyoto\]**
* Change our hotel for one Ryokan (Arashiyama)
* Go to the park, Ninnaji Temple
* ***Not sure if I go back to ryokan and enjoy and let the rest for the other day***
* **May 28 Kyoto \[>Tokyo\]**
* Bamboo forest (7:30am)
* Kinkaku-ji, Ryoan-ji, Togetsukyo
* Spend the day walking
* Back to tokyo
* **May 29 Tokyo**
* Tokyo center+Odaiba
* **May 30 Tokyo**
* Ghibli Museu in the morning and Ueno park and zoo
* **May 31 Nikko**
* Nikko day trip – ***not sure if we sleep in Nikko ou go back to tokyo***
* **June 1st**
* Haneda flight at 6h30pm
