Heading to Kyoto for 4 weeks in Sept/Oct with my 11 year old son. His first time in Japan. I’ve been many times.
Any feedback welcome, especially from anyone who has taken a kid of similar age.
General plan is do 1 or 2 major thing per day, with about a week of rest days scattered throughout.
We’ve lots of smaller stuff planned but not listed here, eg animal cafes, Nishiki market, Pontocho etc.
Some questions;
1. Is Hiroshima worth a visit for kids? I find war-related stuff a bit “heavy”.
2. Is one day enough to do Nagoya Legoland and Ghibli Park? We’ll take shinkansen.
3. Did your kids enjoy the temple gardens? Some adults get “templed out” in Kyoto, so I fear it’s even worse for kids. Plan is to see 10-ish temples, eg 1 every 2 days on average.
4. What would be a good way for him to meet some local kids to play with? Just go down a park and “say hi”?
5. How intense are the baseball games? How long does a game go for?
6. any “big ticket” items missing?
