So, I’m planning my first international trip ever – I’ll be going solo to Japan this fall (Late Sept). While I do want to spend a little time in big cities (I currently have stops planned in both Tokyo and Kyoto), I’m especially interested in the nature/gardens/peaceful side of Japan (see this [IG account »](https://www.instagram.com/takashi.film/) for a ton of visual inspo for my trip).
I’d love feedback on my current itinerary (a draft for now – will be finalized / booked by end of the March): [https://wanderlog.com/view/aaqoqastif/trip-to-japan/shared](https://wanderlog.com/view/aaqoqastif/trip-to-japan/shared) ⬅️ attractions / places I plan to visit
* Tokyo – 3 nights
* Katsura – 1 night
* Nara – 2 nights
* Kyoto – 2 nights
* Okayama – 1 night
* Kanazawa – 1 night
* Nagano – 1 night
* Nikko – 1 night
What places in these areas am I missing? Any good food places I must check out? Any simple day trips or experiences? Any places on this itinerary actually not that great (and maybe suggested alternatives)? The top section – “Other Ideas to Add to Itinerary?”– is a holding ground for other things I’ve found when researching but haven’t decided on to plugged into a specific day. Any of those must see?
I’d also love any general tips for traveling in Japan (especially traveling solo, which will also be a first for me). This is a bucket list trip for me, but I’m naturally a little overwhelmed / nervous about doing it well, safely, and making it worth the expense.
Thanks in advance!
(p.s. – if there’s a better subreddit for this type of question, just let me know. I’ve loved reading what I’ve seen on here so far, so I figured it was a good place to start).
