It seems that the Japanese term for “clitoris” is 陰核 (いんかく), which is clearly loaned from the Chinese term meaning the same thing. But there is another reading へのこ which refers to either the testicles or penis? How did this reading come about, when the kanji don’t seem to describe that meaning well? How common is the へのこ reading? Doesn’t it get confusing to overload the one kanji spelling with so many related meanings?
