Hello everyone. Planning a trip from Tokyo to Kagoshima for beginning of April this year for 24 days. Visited Japan for 2 weeks last year in September/October and loved it so much that I have to go back already. It was a pretty standard trip from Osaka to Kyoto to Tokyo for a first-timer. This time will be starting in Tokyo for 10 days then move to the west end and fly back to Tokyo to fly back home. Asakusa will be main base for Tokyo and will be landing in and leaving from HND. Tokyo will basically be go to district and explore with no real goal in mind. Being from Midwest USA makes me love the bigger city since don’t have much of that around here so I don’t find it boring.
Day 1: Arrive late afternoon in Tokyo and travel to Asakusa. Get dinner in the area.
Day 2: Jet lag recovery day and walk around Asakusa.
Day 3: Nakano Broadway and surrounding area.
Day 4: Akihabara
Day 5: Ikebukuro – Sunshine City and Super Potato
Day 6: Shinjuku – Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building
Day 7: Shibuya
Day 8: Roppongi – Mori Tower + Art Museum
Day 9: Kamakura and Yokohama day trip. Hokokuji Temple + Bamboo Forest and Komachi-dori Street. Travel to Yokohama for Minatomirai and Chinatown at night.
Day 10: Free day
Day 11-12: Checkout of Asakusa and travel to Hakone. Will be using Hakone Free Pass. Shrine, walk Old Tokaido Road, Owakudani, Yumoto onsen, Open-Air Museum, Odawara Castle, sight see cruise. Leave for Kibune to stay the night on 2nd day.
Day 13: Kibune area explore and then leave for Kobe.
Day 14-15: Kobe – Nunobiki waterfall, gardens, Mount Maya, cablecar for first day. Second day is Harborland and leaving for Okayama.
Day 16: Okayama – castle + korakuen. Potentially the Kibi Plain and doing the bike route? Leaving for Imabari in evening.
Day 17: Imabari and starting the Shimanami Kaido. Will forward luggage to Hiroshima and will just bring a backpack with change of clothes + drinks/snacks. Stop halfway through to stay at either Omishima or Ikuchi Island.
Day 18: Finish Shimanami Kaido in Onomichi.
Day 19-20: Leave Onomichi in the morning to Hiroshima. Shukkeien Garden + Peace Park. Day 2 of Hiroshima is Itsukushima Jinja, Daishoin, and Mount Misen.
Day 21: Depart Hiroshima for Yamaguchi city. Forwarding luggage to hotel as first stop will be Akiyoshido Cave, then Jyoei-ji Temple and garden.
Day 22: Leave Yamaguchi for Nagasaki in the morning. Maybe visit Hashima Island? Mt. Inasayama Obsevatory at night. Nagasaki was kind of a throw-in so didn’t have to do a bunch of just traveling on one day.
Day 23: Travel to Kagoshima. Probably luggage forward here as I plan to do the Sakurajima flight tour and then walk around the area. Depending on scheduling and all that.
Day 24: Fly back to HND and depart from there to back home.
Does travel and timeline all seem doable for solo travel? Hakone schedule is also just stuff to do with no real organization so didn’t know how tight that schedule is.
