Japan police urge officers to avoid impression of racial profiling

  1. Being asked to produce ID is fine. Because that’s clearly defined in the law.

    What’s not right is when the cops deliberately break their own law with unlawful searches, which is also clearly defined in the Police Duties Execution Act.

    Not to mention the damage to reputation and social standing, what there is of it, when friends/neighbours/customers/colleagues witness someone their know with their trousers around their ankles, and all of their personal effects scattered hither and thither right there in the street. Unwarranted searches right after they fantasise about Mr Smith potentially robbing a bank are supposed to take place at the police station, where witnesses who know them cannot spread wild rumours.

    The police need to ensure that their own employees are not committing heinous crimes.
